Falcons shut out by Porterville in CVC opener

West Hills College Coalinga couldn't get its offense going on Thursday and suffered a 6-0 loss to visiting Porterville College in both teams' Central Valley Conference opener.

The Falcons totaled just two hits in the contest, getting singles from center fielder Alyssa Cota and pitcher Madison Redding.

Porterville greeted Redding by scoring a run in the top of the first inning. The Pirates scored again in the fourth and secured their victory with a four-run, seventh-inning. Redding allowed 4 earned runs and 6 hits. She struck out five and walked six.

Thursday's loss dropped West Hills to 1-10 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The Falcons return to action on Tuesday (Mar. 3) when they host Reedley College in a CVC doubleheader. Game 1 is set for 1 p.m.
