West Hills College in Coalinga, California has been one of the dominating forces in intercollegiate rodeo for over 30 years. It is known nationwide for fielding national and regional championship teams and individuals. Former students have gone on to become professional rodeo contestants, national finalists, and world champions.

While rodeo is important at West Hills, the emphasis of the program is education. In the West Hills Rodeo Program, student success is measured not only in the arena but, more importantly, in the classroom. The graduation rate of student-athletes in the rodeo program is high, with many earning an associate's degree and transferring to major universities to continue their education and rodeo competition. West Hills College Coalinga is an accredited California Community College with classes that transfer to California State University and the University of California systems, as well as to private colleges and universities.

Rodeo practice opportunities at West Hills are among the finest in the nation. Daily practices, complete with livestock and professional coaching, in all men's and women's events, are maximized due to a mild climate with regular Winter sunshine. In 2007, West Hills' rodeo facilities were moved to a new location with a new rodeo complex that features three practice arenas and 60 student horse stalls - all in close proximity to campus classrooms. This facility is part of the WHCC Farm of the Future, which features precision agriculture programs as well as student enterprise projects for hands-on experience.

Rodeo athletes also have access to West Hills' state-of-the-art weight room and highly esteemed athletic training team and facility. Athletic Trainer Cory Minter and Assistant Athletic Trainer Shelby Murrell are highly trained healthcare providers who specialize in the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions related to physical activity and sports. They are present during all rough stock practices and offer individual treatment plans to all students involved in the rodeo program.
