Falcons drop conference opener 98-54 at Sequoias

The new calendar year still feels like 2019 for the West Hills College Coalinga men's basketball team. The Falcons opened up its Central Valley Conference schedule with a 98-54 loss at No. 8 state-ranked College of the Sequoias on Wednesday night.

West Hills is still in search of its first win of the season and fell to 0-15 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Sequoias (12-3, 1-0 CVC) raced out to a 14-2 lead and held a commanding 45-21 advantage at halftime. COS outrebounded West Hills by a 61-33 margin and was able to convert 21 offensive rebounds into 21 second-chance points.

The Falcons got a game-high 21 points from Trevon Perry. He also added 7 rebounds and a pair of steals. Fredery Cuello contributed 13 points and 5 rebounds while Tyrell Edwards came off the bench to score 7 points.

Elihu Cobb posted a double-double for the Giants with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Ryan Johnson led COS with 18 points.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday (Jan. 11) when they travel to Reedley College for a 5 p.m. CVC game.
