Playing in just its second game of the season, West Hills College Coalinga fell by a final score of 31-7 at College of the Siskiyous' Hershel Meredith Stadium in Weed on Saturday.

Turnovers proved to be costly for the Falcons. Four West Hills' passes were intercepted and the Falcons lost a pair of fumbles.

COS set the tempo early on offense, scoring on its opening drive. The Eagles struck again to start the second quarter, taking a 14-0 lead after quarterback OJ Calleja tossed his second touchdown pass.

West Hills' defense came up with its biggest stand to set up the Falcons for their lone touchdown. Siskiyous had the ball at the West Hills five-yard line but was turned back thanks to a sack by Obed E Ntumba. After the six-yard loss, Calleja's next pass was intercepted by Rusty Finona and returned to the West Hills 22-yard line.

Falcons quarterback Jaice Holt wasted little time in tossing a 46-yard pass to Preston Conti and followed that with a 28-yard strike to Brandon Tryon. A roughing the passer penalty set the ball on the Siskiyous two-yard line. Two plays later, Holt and Tryon connected again for a two-yard TD reception to cut the Eagles' lead to 14-7 with 1:43 left in the half.

But that would be all the scoring for the Falcons. Calleja threw two more touchdowns and COS got a 27-yard field goal from Noah Silverton at the 14:06 mark in the fourth to wrap up the game.

Holt closed his day completing 16 of 29 passes for 182 yards. Tryon led West Hills receivers with seven receptions for 69 yards.

Aaron Middleton and Darius Jackson led West Hills on defense with seven tackles. Jeremiah Smith added four tackles and added a sack and a fumble recovery.

West Hills, now 0-2, returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 9) when the Falcons host Shasta College in a 1 p.m. game at the Memorial Bowl. The game was originally scheduled for Sept. 3 but was postponed because of poor air quality.
