West Hills College Coalinga matched College of the Sequoias point-for-point for three quarters on Saturday. But a 14-point second-quarter by COS was the difference in a 28-14 Falcons loss at the Mineral King Bowl in Visalia.

West Hills and Sequoias were tied 7-7 before the Giants went up 21-7 at halftime and added another TD early in the third quarter to take a commanding 28-7 advantage.

The Falcons broke the COS scoring surge when Dwan James ran in from eight yards out at the 7:28 mark in the third to cap a nine-play, 42-yard drive. But West Hills would get no closer as their final three drives of the contest stalled out on downs.

James once again carried the load on offense for the Falcons, rushing for 138 yards on 26 carries with a touchdown.

Izaak Lindgren completed 11 of 20 passes for 82 yards with a TD and three interceptions. He tossed a 20-yard touchdown to Rayvon Smith on West Hills's opening drive of the game that gave the Falcons an early lead.

On defense, the Falcons had a season-high four sacks in the contest, getting one each from Jhrquez Teagal, Taleeke Davie, Keyshawn Gist, and Thadius Harris. Dashawn Holliman and James Carter had seven tackles each to lead West Hills.

The loss dropped West Hills to 0-8 overall and 0-3 in Valley League play. The Falcons will look to end their losing streak on Saturday (Nov. 9) when they travel to San Joaquin Delta College for a 1 p.m. league game.
