Falcons rally for walk-off win over Monterey Peninsula

Freshman Agustine Castro came through in the clutch with a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift West Hills College Coalinga to its first win of the season, a 5-4 walk-off victory over visiting Monterey Peninsula College on Saturday.

The win improved West Hills to 1-4 overall this season.

The Falcons trailed 4-3 heading into the final frame but were able to rally for the win. Consecutive singles by Logan Weatherby and Aiden Rocha opened the bottom of the ninth. With runners on first and second base with no outs, Bennett Hergenroeder put down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners setting up the game-winner for Castro.

Castro entered the lineup, pinch hitting for Isaiah Clarke, and he delivered. His ground ball smash to second base allowed pinch runner Jeremy Frye and Rocha to score the tying and go-ahead runs.

West Hills scored early in the contest, getting three runs in the bottom of the first off MPC starter Nick Bouillerce. Hunter Jenkins and Elias Garcia both hit RBI doubles and Weatherby added a run-scoring single to get the Falcons' offense going.

Subaru Oshima earned the win in relief. He tossed the final 3 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs and two hits. Karter Pate started on the mound for the Falcons and went 5 2/3 innings, giving up three runs and five hits.

West Hills will look to build on the win when the Falcons return to action on Tuesday (Feb. 4) with a 2 p.m. non-conference game at Gavilan College in Gilroy.
