Falcons Make It 3 Straight; Beat Porterville 4-2 Behind Hammond's 13 K's

Coalinga, CA – Head coach Stefan McGovern and the West Hills College baseball squad (6-5) used an eighth inning rally to take game two of this three game series over Porterville College (0-11).  With heavy winds blowing in from left field it made runs hard to come for either squad to come by.  The win improves the Falcons record to 16-12 overall.

Southpaw Specner Hammond (5-2) toed the rubber for West Hills to start the day. Being around the strike zone early allowed Hammond to limit his pitch count and go the distance. In eight innings of work Hammond sat 13 Pirate batters down on strikes and allowed six hits and two earned runs.
In the second inning Porterville was able to throw out two Falcon runners and keep the game scoreless. Two Falcon runners would be tagged out at the plate in the game. A leadoff walk issued to Porterville started off the fifth inning. A single to left field and a stolen base put runners in scoring position for the Pirates. With one out in the inning Porterville crossed the first runs of the ballgame with a double down the right field line.
The Falcons bats couldn't catch much of a break and continued to hit the ball hard right at Pirate defenders. In the eighth inning West Hills was able to string together hits and get momentum in its favor. Alante Uribe got things started with a single to the left side. Uribe finished the day with four base hits. A sacrifice bunt from Danny Perez then moved Uribe to second base. Ronnie Cross followed up Perez with a push bunt down the first base line. Cross used his speed and was able to dodge a Porterville tag attempt. A hit by pitch to Jeff Torres loaded the bases for Jurren Santiallana. Santillana hit a chopper back to the Porterville pitcher, but the ball was dropped on the attempted tag, which alloed two runs to score two, tying the game at 2-2. It was Matt Siedem to bring in the go ahead run for WHCC with a base hit through the right side of the infield. A Scotty Ingle groundout to second base then brought in the fourth Falcon run of the inning.

This was Hammond's 2nd complete game this season. The Falcons will travel to Porterville on Saturday to try and complete the sweep. First pitch will be at 1pm.
