Hammond Throws Complete Game Shutout; Falcons Beat Yuba 7-0

Marysville, CA – The West Hills College baseball team shutout Yuba College in Friday's non-conference matchup to improve its record to 8-7 on the season.

The story of the day was West Hills southpaw Spencer Hammond. Hammond would go the distance and allow only two hits in his nine innings of work. After the first inning Hammond allowed only allowed two additional Yuba base runners.

"I really wanted to focus on getting strike one," said Hammond. "Today I was able to force weak contact early in at bats and that was huge. I know our team is going to put up runs, so I just wanted to make sure I gave them an opportunity."

Jeff Torres got the West Hills offense started in the fourth inning. With teammate Trent Bollman at second base, Torres launched his first home run of the season over the left field fence to give the Falcons the 2-0 lead. Isaiah Daniel later singled to left field to drive in Jake Lorenzini and widen the lead. Daniel was then driven in by a Scotty Ingle base hit up the middle to complete the four run inning.

Evan Richards, Trent Bollman, and Alante Uribe drove in three additional insurance runs in the ninth inning to cap off the 7-0 win in Marysville.

Head skipper Stefan McGovern was proud with how his team showed up ready to compete. "After a game like our last it is easy to get down and be unfocused," said McGovern. "Being able to have Spencer come out and throw like he did early in a ball game helps everybody relax. It was nice to see this team show up focused and ready to make a statement. We need to build off of this win and keep getting better."

Final: West Hills 7 – Yuba 0
