West Hills Pounds Taft 14-3; Win Season Series!

Despite being at the bottom of the conference, the West Hills College Falcons baseball team is showing a lot of life the past three games as they close their season. The Falcons hosted Taft College on Sunday and Justin Vlotho got his final home start of his career. After Taft had back to back doubles in the 1st, pushing the score to 1-0, the Falcons answered back in their half of the 1st as Alante Uribe hit a two out double and was brought home by a RBI single by Evan Walter. After Vlotho shut the Cougars down in the 2nd, the Falcons had their second 7 run inning of the week. Christian Dent led off with a single, and quickly scored on a RBI double by Brandon Barker. During the next at-bat, Barker stole 3rd on a ball in dirt, and scored on a wild throw by Taft catcher Richard Ortiz. With one out, Adrian Flores singled which was followed by a single by Scotty Ingle. With two outs, Uribe came up clutch again with a RBI single up the middle, scoring Flores. After Taft went to their bullpen, Evan Walter was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for DH Torin Miller who tripled to right field, clearing the bases and pushing the score to 7-1. Dent hit another single to left, scoring Miller.

The 7 run lead was more than enough for Vlotho, as he went 7 solid innings, giving up one run while striking out 5 batters. The Falcons added to their lead in the 4th and 5th innings, as Barker hit another RBI single in the 4th, and Walter hit an opposite field double in the 5th which scored Uribe. With the score 11-1, the Falcons turned to the bench, and got some more offensive production. After Jake Sharpe walked and Jake Lorenzini singled to lead off the 7th inning, Preston Riley hit a 2 RBI double to right, giving the Falcons a 13-1 lead. The Falcons bullpen held the lead in the 8th and 9th innings, only allowing two runs. Six Falcon hitters had multiple hits on Sunday, as Walter went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI's, Miller went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI's, and Barker went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's.

The Falcons will play their final home game on Tuesday against Reedley College at 2pm, and finish their season on the road against Merced on Thursday and Fresno on Friday.
