West Hills College hosted Merced College on Saturday, trying to salvage one win after losing the first two games of the series. It ended up being a pitcher's duel as both starters threw terrific. Brandon Barker started for the Falcons and threw 7 innings of shutout baseball. The game stood at zero until the 6th inning when Alante Uribe drew a 2 out walk, which was followed by another walk by Evan Walter. DH Torin Miller gave the Falcons the lead with a RBI single up the middle, bringing home Uribe. After Barker gave another shutdown inning in the 7th, the Falcons turned to reliever Torin Miller in the 8th and things quickly went bad. Miller gave up a leadoff single, and then mishandled a bunt, putting runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. He then hit the next hitter, loading the bases. Miller was lifted for closer Mack Morford who walked the first batter he faced, tying the score 1-1. Morford then got a double play groundball to short, but also allowed the go ahead run to score. Morford got out of the inning with the Falcons down 2-1, but Merced's starter Ryan Sanchez did not give up the lead, as he went the distance. Sanchez threw 9 innings giving up only 3 hits, and struck out 7. Barker was equally as good, as he threw 7 innings, giving up no runs, allowing 5 hits and striking out two. The Falcons will travel to Porterville next Tuesday, and will be back home Thursday.
