Brown, Farkas named Student-Athletes of the Year; WHCC celebrates 2022-23 season

Brody Brown from Baseball and Makalya Farkas from the Rodeo team were selected as the 2022-23 West Hills College Coalinga Student-Athletes of the Year after impressive seasons on the field and in the classroom. The pair were honored as part of the annual Celebration of Student-Athletes by the college on Wednesday, May 3.

Brown and Farkas, as well as 84 student-athletes that earned Honor Roll during the fall semester were recognized by WHCC President Carla Tweed, Vice President of Student Services Angela Tos, and Associate Dean of Athletics Joe Hash.

Student-athletes that achieved All-Central Valley Conference accolades during the spring season were presented their certificates and awards while recipients from the fall and winter seasons were also recognized.

Brown, a kinesiology major, earned the President's Citation during the fall of 2022 with a 4.0 grade point average. He is currently carrying a cumulative 3.72 GPA. He was named to the Fall 2022 Athletic Department Honor Roll and was selected the April 2023 Student-Athlete of the Month. Brown also serves as a resident assistant in Gordon Hall, the college's men's residence building.

On the baseball field, he was a valuable and versatile member of the Falcons, playing catcher, first base and right field. Brown batted .300 on the season with 6 doubles and 18 RBI. He has committed to attend and play at Metropolitan State College of Denver in Colorado next year.

Farkas, also a kinesiology major, earned Dean's List honors during the fall 2022 semester with a 3.86 GPA. She is currently carrying a cumulative 3.29 GPA. She was named to the WHCC Fall 2022 Athletic Department Honor Roll and was also selected an April 2023 Student-Athlete of the Month.

In the arena, Farkas is ranked in the top-15 of the Western Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) in Goat Tying and Breakaway.
