West Hills College Coalinga has named Lexie Canales from women's volleyball and Vondarious Gordon from football as its Student-Athletes of the Month for September.
Lexie Canales #5—Volleyball—Sophomore Outside Hitter from Reedley High School. Lexie is a Health Sciences major. West Hills currently has a 6-5 overall record and 3-3 record in Central Valley Conference play.
Falcons head volleyball coach Jeff Wanderer feels that Lexie has been instrumental in the team's success so far this season and had this to say about Lexie's play in the first month of the season:
"Lexie has consistently stepped up in critical moments. While she has contributed numerous times in scoring points directly, Lexie has made significant contributions that do not get stated."
Vondarious Gordon #22—Football—Sophomore Running Back from North Chicago High School in Illinois. Von is a Liberal Arts major. Gordon has been instrumental in the Falcons 1-0 conference record and 2-3 overall record.
So far this season, Gordon is averaging 108.2 yards per carry (7th in the state) with 541 rushing yards (6th in the state) on 85 carries and six touchdowns. In addition, he has 16 pass receptions for 201 yards and two receiving touchdowns.
Vondarius was named 'Northern California Football Conference (NCFC) Offensive Player of the Week' for week two of the season in the Falcons' exciting come from behind 42-41 victory over Los Medanos College. Gordon scored three touchdowns and had 188 yards rushing on 26 carries vs. LMC.
