Falcons open conference schedule with consecutive sweeps

Freshman Zoe Ruskofsky totaled 21 kills over two matches to help lead the West Hills College Coalinga women's volleyball team to a pair of wins to open Central Valley Conference play. On Wednesday, the Falcons swept in-district rival West Hills College Lemoore at home and closed out the week with another sweep, this time at Reedley College, on Friday.

The wins improved West Hills to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in the CVC.

Ruskofsky needed just two sets to compile her match-high 13 kills in the Falcons' 25-10, 25-22, 25-14 win over West Hills Lemoore. Beth Moreno had a good match with 9 kills, 7 digs, and 5 aces, while Sarah Wold contributed 19 assists, 8 digs, and 2 aces.

West Hills kept the momentum going with its 25-16, 25-16, 25-14 victory at Reedley. Ruskofsky once again led the offense with 8 kills and Moreno chipped in with 7.

Bailee Costa was big on defense with 16 digs and Tiffany Kelton led with 15 assists.

The Falcons return to action next week, hosting a pair of Central Valley Conference matches. Columbia College visits Coalinga on Wednesday (Sep. 20) at 5 p.m. while College of the Sequoias will be in town on Friday (Sep. 22) for a 6 p.m. contest.
