Falcons pick up wins over Ohlone, Los Medanos at home

COALINGA – After a tough start to the 2023 season, the West Hills College Coalinga women's volleyball team is in the win column. Hosting a three-way event with Ohlone and Los Medanos colleges, the Falcons were able to defeat both opponents for their first two wins of the season.

Led by 11 kills from Zoe Ruskofsky, West Hills opened with a 25-16, 25-16, 25-22 sweep of Ohlone. Tiara Daly and Kaylee Bayer both added 6 kills each.

Bailee Costa led the Falcons with 17 digs while Sarah Wold totaled 17 assists, 5 digs, and a pair of aces.

West Hills needed five sets to pull out a marathon victory over Los Medanos. The Falcons fell behind 2-0 but rallied to take the final three for the 20-25, 18-25, 25-17, 25-23, 15-13 win.

Ruskofsky had an even bigger match, leading the Falcons with 18 kills and 18 digs. Beth Moreno was solid with 15 kills, 15 digs, and 5 aces while Bayer chipped in with 10 kills and 2 aces.

Wold paced the offense with 25 assists and Tiffany Kelton added 22 assists.

With the wins, West Hills improved to 2-4 overall. The Falcons next travel to Modesto Junior College on Friday (Sep. 8) for a pair of matches against Folsom Lake College and host Modesto.
