Falcons cruise to sweep at Columbia

Freshman Kalissa Ortega had a huge night on defense, racking up a season-high 24 digs to help lead the West Hills College Coalinga women's volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep at Columbia College in Sonora on Friday.

The Falcons won the Central Valley Conference match by scores of 25-12, 25-16, and 25-18 to improve to 5-10 overall and 2-5 in conference play.

Ortega led a strong effort for the Falcons' back line. West Hills came up with 38 digs on 57 Columbia attempts while only allowing 14 kills. She also had three of the Falcons' 12 aces on the night.

On offense, Sanaii Cooper led West Hills with 7 kills while Jaden Flores added 6 kills. Alexia Vancill had a team-best 14 assists and Jada Douangmala chipped in with 11 assists.

The Falcons return to action on Wednesday (Oct. 13) at 6 p.m. for an in-district match at home against West Hills College Lemoore.
