Falcons have four selected to All-State Region II team

The postseason honors continue to come in for the West Hills College Coalinga football squad. Following the close of the 2023 season, four Falcons were named to the All-State Region II team by the California Community College Football Coaches Association.

On offense, sophomore offensive lineman Joseph Star and sophomore wide receiver Brandon Tryon were first team selections. On defense, sophomore linebacker Darrise Bridgett and freshman defensive back Darrell Tripline Jr were honored on the first team as well.

The all-state honors were selected at the CCCFCA's statewide postseason coaches meeting on Dec. 7 in Visalia.

"It's great having four of our guys recognized," said West Hills Coalinga head coach Justin Berna. "These guys are all studs and had solid seasons."

Berna expects Star, Tryon, and Bridgett to all transfer on to four-year programs while Tripline Jr should return in the spring in preparation for his sophomore season at West Hills next fall.

"We're really excited to see the season Darrell has next year," Berna said.

WHCC closed out the 2023 regular season on a positive note, winning its final two contests, including a 54-7 rout at Gavilan College in the season finale. Under Berna, the Falcons went .500 in 2023, posting a 5-5 overall record.
