Falcons’ Rudy Valdez named NCFC Player of the Week

A quality win by the West Hills College Coalinga football team on Saturday led to a big honor.

Following the Falcons' 27-21 victory at College of the Redwoods, sophomore defensive back Rudy Valdez was selected the Northern California Football Conference (NCFC) American Division Defensive Player of the Week.

Valdez made his presence felt against the Corsairs as he recorded a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and grabbed an interception. He totaled 4 tackles, including 1.5 for loss. Valdez also handled punting duties in the contest.

Head coach Justin Berna has been impressed with the play of Valdez.

"Rudy has been playing great football all season and has shown great versatility on defense and special teams," said Berna. "He is very deserving of this award and recognition."

Valdez and the Falcons will have to wait a week until returning to the field. West Hills, now 2-1 overall, has a bye this Saturday and is back in action on Sept. 30 when the Falcons host College of the Siskiyous at 1 p.m.
