The Red team pulled off a close 24-20 win over the Blue on Friday in the annual West Hills College Coalinga Red-Blue Scrimmage to close out the non-traditional spring season.

The defense was led by Jayson Deleon and Maleik Bradford. Bradford had two big stops, saving big plays and possible touchdowns. Deleon recorded a sack and a tackle for loss. Makeli Lihau and new transfer Jermaine Harris also recorded tackles for loss for the blue squad.

Rhys Watkins got in the backfield for the other sack of the scrimmage and Tramaine Brown made a great play on a screen pass and recorded a TFL. Xavier Cannaday, a spring transfer, made a great play on a deep ball and had the game's only interception.

On special teams, kicker Sam Michotte was 3 for 3 on PATs and also had a 23-yard field goal on the last play of the game to guarantee the Red team victory. Michael Hankinson had one punt for 39 yards with no return in the first half.

On offense, quarterback Jett Garcia was 7 of 13 for 81 yards and had a great read and pull on his 6-yard touchdown run that gave the Red team the lead for good.

New spring transfer QB Logan Johnson was 9 for 14 for 92 yards and led two very impressive scoring drives, including on the final drive of the game.

The running backs were very solid as well. New spring transfer Tair Bolden had 57 yards and two rushing touchdowns of 35 and 6 yards. Jerry Tatum had 10 rushes for 44 yards and added a reception for 12 more yards. Avian Pesina rushed for 64 yards on 10 carries and Kevin Herrera finished with 4 carries and 18 yards.

The receivers were led by KJ Ford with 6 receptions for 67 yards, Ashton Goll added 3 catches for 37 yards and newcomer Kyle Bob had 2 catches for 16 yards and Iverson Braziel and Uriah Clark also added a reception each for 17 and 14 yards.

The Falcons officially head into the offseason before the upcoming 2023 fall schedule. WHCC is coming off a 2022 season that saw the Falcons capture a Golden Coast League championship and qualify for a postseason bowl game under head coach Justin Berna.
