Falcons earn 5 All-Region honors; celebrate championship season with team banquet

The postseason honors for the Golden Coast League co-champion West Hills College Coalinga Falcons continue to roll in. On Thursday, five members of the WHCC football squad were named to the Northern California Football Conference (NCFC) All-Region II team.

Honorees on offense are sophomore running back Vondarious Gordon, sophomore wide receiver Dagostino Saintal, and sophomore offensive lineman Tristan Valle.

On the defensive side of the field, sophomore defensive back Rusty Finona and sophomore linebacker Juan Donoso earned all-region honors.

"This is a great honor for these guys," said West Hills head coach Justin Berna. "Their hard work and dedication really showed in the success of this past season.

"This is the most all-region selections we've ever had," Berna continued. "Two of the guys are on pace to graduate in the spring, three will graduate in December."

On Wednesday night, the Falcons celebrated their league championship and Silicon Valley Bowl appearance with their annual team awards banquet.

Awards voted on by the team were given out at the banquet, recipients included:

Scout Offensive Player of the Year- Nick Siegel
Scout Defensive Player of the Year- John Mosby
"Big Man" of the Year- Tristan Valle
Special Teams Player of the Year- Michael Hankinson
Offensive Player of the Year- Von Gordon
Defensive Player of the Year- Rusty Finona
The "Commitment to Excellence" Award- Dago Saintal

Earlier in the week, West Hills racked up 13 All-Golden Coast League awards, including top honors by Berna (Coach of the Year) and Gordon (Offensive Player of the Year).

West Hills also earned seven first-team All-Golden Coast League accolades as well as four honorable mention selections.

First team honorees on offense included quarterback Jaice Holt, Gordon at running back, wide receiver Dagostino Saintal, and offensive linemen Tristan Valle and Joseph Star.

On defense, linebacker Juan Donoso and defensive back Rusty Finona were named first-team all-league.

Named All-Golden Coast League honorable mention were wide receiver DeQuan Green, defensive backs Julius German and Maleik Bradford, and linebacker Sam Maldonado.

The Falcons wrapped up the 2022 season with a 6-5 overall record and went 5-1 in league play to earn a share of the Golden Coast League championship and spot in a postseason bowl game. It was their first league title and bowl appearance since 2016.
