Ramirez drives in seven runs in pair of wins over Porterville

COALINGA – The West Hills College Coalinga baseball team got its Central Valley Conference schedule off to a great start by winning consecutive games from Porterville College. On Tuesday, the Falcons cruised to a 12-6 victory in Porterville and followed that with a 7-2 win at home on Thursday.

West Hills was looking to complete a series sweep on Saturday but the game was postponed due to poor playing conditions at Porterville's field following rain from Friday's storm.

That contest has been rescheduled for Wednesday (Mar. 9) at 2 p.m. in Porterville.

West Hills won its third out of its last four games with the two victories over the Pirates.

In Tuesday's 12-6 win on the road, West Hills scored 11 of its runs over the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to erase a 2-1 Porterville lead.

Aviram Ramirez drove in four run in the contest, including a three-run double in the seventh inning. He reached base three times and went 1 for 4 with a pair of walks and scored twice. Joziah Valdez had 2 RBI while Aiden Rocha totaled two hits.

Karter Pate pitched well in the start to pick up the victory. He allowed three runs and five hits over five innings while striking out five.

Thursday's 7-2 win in Coalinga saw the Falcons total 11 hits. Leading 3-2, West Hills rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth to put the game out of reach.

Ramirez drove in three more runs for the Falcons, giving him 7 RBI over the two-game set. Aiden Rocha was credited with 2 RBI while Agustin Castro (2 for 5), Trenton Avila (2 for 5, run), and Jordan Berger (2 for 4, RBI, run) all had two hits each.

Chris Lenocker (pictured, left) earned his first win of the year. He went seven strong innings, allowing two runs and seven hits with nine strikeouts. Nikayha Castro closed out the contest with a pair of scoreless innings and four strikeouts.

West Hills improved to 7-9 overall. The Falcons return to action on Tuesday (Mar. 8) at 2 p.m. when they begin a three-game Central Valley Conference series at Fresno City College.
