No. 23 Falcons sweep Porterville, split CVC opening week matches

COALINGA – The No. 23 state-ranked Coalinga College women's volleyball team is 1-1 to open Central Valley Conference play after a pair of matches last week.  

The Falcons began the conference portion of their schedule on Wednesday with a tough 3-0 loss at No. 18 Taft College. But Coalinga bounced back with a sweep of its own, this time against visiting Porterville College on Friday.

Coalinga cruised to the 25-13, 25-17, 25-18 victory over the Pirates. In limited playing time, Zoe Ruskofsky led the Falcons with 9 kills while Rikki Adams posted 7 kills.

Aryam Munoz contributed a match-high 14 digs and Faith Bakker had 8 digs. Sarah Wold and Tiffany Kelton both paced the offense with 14 assists each.

The Falcons had a tougher time against Taft, falling 25-15, 25-20, 25-18 on the road to the state-ranked Cougars. The loss snapped Coalinga's eight match winning streak.

Ruskofsky had another impressive match despite the loss. She had team-highs of 10 kills and 13 digs. Tira Daily chipped in with 7 kills and Macy Ellis had 6 kills.

Wold did her best to keep the Falcons in the match, posting 14 assists and 10 digs. Kelton also had 13 assists while Munoz was solid with 13 digs.

Coalinga moved to 10-2 overall after the week's action. The Falcons are back in action on Wednesday (Sep. 27) 6 p.m. when they travel to College of the Sequoias for a Central Valley Conference match.
